About the event

Join us for an (extra) special edition of our long-table supper club as we welcome Lake District farmer and bestselling author James Rebanks to share stories from his life on the land, the grit, the graft, and the deep ties between people, place, and animals which as farmers, we know all about!

As always, you can expect a seasonal, fire-cooked feast in our barn on the edge of the salt marsh, served at one long table with warm company and proper conversation. James will speak after dinner with his usual honest, grounded voice from the fells, sharing what it means to farm with heart in a changing world.

This evening is held in memory of our cousin Rachel Standen, a proud daughter of a sheep farming family and who farmed herself in the Quernmore fells, Rachel who was cared for with immense kindness and love by the hardworking team at St John’s Hospice and all proceeds from the night will go directly to St John’s, so they can continue supporting other families with the same care and compassion.

Come hungry, come curious, and come ready to raise a glass for Rachel.

This will follow our usual food experiences where the art of foraging meets fire-cooked feasts.

🌿 The Experience:

A Set Menu Inspired by the Season: Each dish is crafted from foraged and locally sourced ingredients, plucked from nearby fields, woodlands, and shores, and cooked over an open fire.

Slow Dining: Enjoy a relaxed dining experience around a long banquet table, under the soft flicker of candlelight in our rustic ‘Out Barn', you can expect the good company of fellow diners and a great playlist to set the tone for an unforgettable evening.

Fire-Cooked Flavours: Our chefs work their magic over an open flame, drawing out the deep, rich flavours that only fire-cooked food can deliver.

Low Food Miles, High Quality: Our ethos celebrates British ingredients, sourced from local farmers, fishermen, and foragers. Each dish tells the story of the land, from forest to fork and farm to table.
