About the event
One of the most fascinating creatures. The BEE! 🐝 This is an evening with the brilliant Dr Fred Ayres from Lune Valley Beekeepers. With decades of experience, he’ll guide us through the hidden world of the hive, sharing stories, science, and why these tiny pollinators matter more than ever.
Fred doesn’t just keep bees; he studies them, listens to them, and gives them a voice. With decades of experience and a real knack for storytelling, he’ll take us into the hive (metaphorically) to explore the threats facing honey bees and other pollinators, from pesticides and habitat loss to the growing danger of the Yellow-Legged Asian Hornet, you'll walk away with a whole new appreciation for one of nature’s most important workers.
What You’ll learn:
• What’s really going on with pollinators and why it matters
• What the Asian Hornet is, why it’s a problem, and what’s being done locally to track it, and how you can identify and report it.
• How we can help turn the tide, whether you’ve got a garden, a windowsill, or just a curious mind you'll learn how you can become more nature friendly
Fred’s approach to beekeeping is different, it’s slower, more respectful, and rooted in connection. He practices 'alternative beekeeping' and is passionate about letting bees be bees, and we reckon you’ll leave this session seeing them in a whole new light.
Who’s it for?
Adults and older children (12+) who are curious about the natural world, want to learn more about bees, or are concerned about climate, food, and biodiversity.
We'll provide a light snack where you'll get to sample some local honey and a selection of drinks will be available for you to enjoy.
