Land + Sea is built on a deep connection to this place. We're rooted in the Lancashire landscape, the coast, the seasons and the farming community around us. That connection isn't a brand value we came up with in a meeting room, it shapes the way we run our events, choose our suppliers and look after the land we work on.
This policy sets out our practical commitments to running Land + Sea in a way that's honest about our impact and genuinely working to reduce it. We're not claiming to be perfect, but we are committed to doing better, consistently, thoughtfully and over the long term.
Local and Seasonal Sourcing
Food is central to everything we do at Land + Sea. Where possible, ingredients are sourced from local producers, growers and suppliers within the Lancashire region. We prioritise seasonal produce and reduce reliance on imported goods.
In practice, this means:
-
Working with local farmers, market garden growers and food producers wherever possible
-
Choosing seasonal menus that reflect what's actually available and grown nearby
-
Reducing food miles as a default consideration when selecting suppliers
-
Being transparent with guests about provenance when we know it
-
Reducing single-use packaging in our kitchen operations
Suppliers and Sub-Contractors
We work with a trusted network of makers, chefs, facilitators and suppliers who share our values. When onboarding new partners, sustainability considerations form part of how we assess the fit.
-
Giving preference to suppliers who are local, independent and committed to ethical and sustainable practice
-
Asking sub-contractors and facilitators to align with this policy as part of their engagement with us
-
Avoiding suppliers with poor environmental track records where alternatives exist
-
Building long-term relationships with suppliers rather than chasing cheaper short-term options that compromise our values
Venue Hirers
All venue hirers booking any of our spaces are required to plan and run their events in accordance with this sustainability policy, as referenced in our Terms and Conditions. This is not a tick-box requirement, it is a genuine condition of working with us.
-
Hirers should minimise single-use items and decorations that create unnecessary waste
-
Hirers should source catering and consumables from local or ethical suppliers where possible
-
Any external catering or suppliers brought onto site should be informed of this policy
Decorations and Event Materials
We care about what happens to the site and the wider environment after every event, and that includes what gets left behind. Decorations and event materials are one of the biggest sources of avoidable waste at gatherings, so we have clear rules about what is and isn't welcome at Land + Sea.
What we do not allow:
-
Confetti-filled balloons under any circumstances
-
Single-use plastic decorations, tableware or packaging
-
Glitter that is not certified biodegradable
-
Synthetic ribbon, netting or wrapping materials that cannot be composted or recycled
-
If you are planning to use confetti as part of a wedding or celebration at Land + Sea, it must be 100% biodegradable.
Waste Reduction
We aim to reduce waste at every stage of our operation, from how we plan menus and buy ingredients, through to how guests and hirers leave the space.
-
Planning food quantities carefully to minimise surplus and food waste
-
Composting organic waste from kitchen operations where possible
-
Recycling all appropriate materials from the kitchen and event spaces
-
Discouraging single-use plastics and encouraging reusable alternatives
-
Requesting that venue hirers follow our waste and recycling guidance as part of their booking
-
Providing clear guidance to all guests and hirers on how to sort and dispose of waste correctly on site
